Community Land Trust Fund

Delivering Affordable Sustainable Housing

About the fund

The CLT Fund was first set up as a pilot project in October 2008, by a number of charitable funders including the Tudor Trust the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the Nationwide Foundation. At the time, Community Land Trusts (CLTs) were a very new model of community-led housing in the UK. We wanted to provide support to address some of the common obstacles faced by new CLTs and encourage more lenders to support the budding CLT movement.

Five and a half years on, in 2014 we are re-launching the next CLT Fund. As before, we will be providing a mix of grant and loan capital to CLTs at different stages of development, to help them achieve their ambition.

There are 2 elements to the CLT Fund:

  • The CLT Start Up Fund offers grant finance to support emerging CLTs as they first get started – from developing the initial idea through to developing an investment-ready business plan. This part of the Fund is administered by the National CLT Network.
  • The CLT Social Investment Fund offers loan finance to support new and established CLTs work up their proposals and develop affordable homes, from detailed technical work to secure planning permission, through to the final construction. This part of the Fund is administered by CAF Venturesome.
